Blog

For years, I have been creating mixed media pieces in my art journals, including small paintings, drawings, and sketches using watercolor, ink, and graphite. These watercolor sketchbooks serve as my visual diaries, chronicling the lovely places I have visited and the memories I have gathered through travel.

Whenever I journey to a new destination, I carry my watercolor kit and sketchbook with me. Whether painting en plein air or quietly in a hotel room, I seek to capture the essence of each moment in a way that feels both personal and artistic.

Watercolor remains my medium of choice for sketchbook work. Its fluidity, spontaneity, and portability make it a perfect companion, allowing me to record fleeting impressions with immediacy and grace.

Bobo

It was New Year’s Day, and snow fell heavily over New York. We had just moved into a new apartment in Battery Park City and hadn’t put up curtains yet. Our beloved dog, Bobo, was utterly enchanted, with his eyes following the snowflakes as they danced through the air. His favorite perch was the chaise lounge by the window, where he would spend hours observing the world below. He especially loved spotting his doggie friends passing by, barking with joy until I joined him to share the moment.  Bobo crossed the rainbow bridge on October 4th, 2022, just a day after his 15th [...]

Golden pear picking at Evergreen Orchard Farm, New Jersey

The weather was perfect the day we visited Evergreen Orchard Farm in New Jersey. Beneath a brilliant blue sky, dotted with soft cumulus clouds like fluffy cotton, rows of graceful pear trees stood in quiet splendor. The air was filled with the sweet, delicate scent of ripe pears, and the entire farm seemed to rest peacefully beneath the endless horizon. It was a joyful day - each pear we picked was incredibly juicy and sweet. My muse, Melody, gathered a generous bagful with a delighted smile, determined to bring home enough for a batch of homemade pear jam. Medium: Watercolor, graphite, and ink on [...]

Jardin des Tuileries, Paris

After visiting the Musée de l’Orangerie to admire the works of my favorite master, Monet, I took a quiet rest in the Jardin des Tuileries. Bordered by the Seine and gracefully nestled between the Place de la Concorde and the Louvre, the garden is a cherished retreat where Parisians come to read, unwind, and gather with friends. It’s a perfect place for a leisurely stroll and to immerse oneself in the rhythm of Parisian life. As I sat there, enveloped by beauty and serenity, I captured the scene in my diary with a painting in an effort to preserve the magic [...]

Koi Fish Pond at Senso-ji Temple, Tokyo

During my trip to Tokyo, I visited Sensō-ji, the city’s oldest temple, dating back to 645 AD. As one of the most significant ancient Buddhist temples in Japan, it has served as a sacred place of pilgrimage and worship for centuries. Even today, it remains a vibrant cultural and spiritual hub. Within the temple grounds, a stone bridge built in 1618 spans a tranquil koi pond, nestled among beautifully landscaped gardens. The pond, a symbol of peace and serenity, reflects Japan’s deep cultural connection between nature and spirituality. It offers a serene space for reflection and quiet meditation.  I was captivated by the [...]
