This painting shows a classic view of Little Island in Manhattan. The island’s striking floating structure, especially its 280 tulip-like concrete supports, is home to more than 350 species of flora.

It was a very pleasant summer day. I was fascinated by how the view changed as the sun began to set in the late afternoon. I captured the sensation of the moment as the appearance of the sky shifted and the light danced across the water and its surroundings. Ring-billed gulls circled calmly above the Hudson River.

I used vibrant pigments to reflect the breathtaking play of light and color, with the quiet rise of skyscrapers behind the island, the greenery growing atop the concrete supports, and all of it reflected in the still water below, where the scene is mirrored with a serene beauty. With smooth brushstrokes, I blurred the boundary between the real and the reflected worlds to capture the dreamlike atmosphere of Little Island.
